Ochi Attends APEC Energy Ministers Meeting
Overview
Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Ochi attended the APEC Energy Ministers Meeting held in Beijing, China, and discussed “Energy for All,” “AI + Energy,” and “Synergistic Cooperation” as central themes. At the meeting, Ochi explained the “Power Asia” policy and the “Power GX” policy, as well as the “three pillars” of energy security: free and transparent energy trade; stronger cooperation between producing and consuming countries; and international cooperation toward oil stockpiling. A joint statement was issued. Ochi also exchanged views with ministers and other officials from Canada, Singapore, and the Philippines, as well as the IEA Executive Director, on LNG, SMRs, ammonia, oil stockpiling, renewable energy, and nuclear power.

Parliamentary Vice-Minister Ochi attended the APEC Energy Ministerial Meeting held in Beijing, China, from September 10 (Thursday) to 11 (Friday). The meeting focused on (1) Energy for All, (2) AI + Energy, and (3) Synergistic Cooperation.
Vice-Minister Ochi explained the “Power Asia” policy, which contributes to a stable energy supply across Asia; the “Power GX” policy, which aims to achieve both a more resilient energy supply-and-demand structure and decarbonization; and the “three pillars” that are important for energy security.

Details
On the occasion of the meeting, bilateral talks were held with ministers and other officials from Canada, Singapore, and the Philippines to exchange views on bilateral and multilateral cooperation in the energy sector. With Parliamentary Secretary Corey Hogan, Canada's Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, discussions covered LNG and SMRs (small modular reactors), while talks with Singaporean Minister of State Gan Siow Huang covered LNG and ammonia.
With Sharon Galin, Minister of the Philippine Department of Energy, Japan confirmed that cooperation on oil stockpiling, renewable energy, nuclear power, and other areas would be strengthened toward the AZEC Ministerial Meeting this October. With IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol, Japan also confirmed that cooperation with the IEA toward a stable global energy supply would be further strengthened.
