On September 8 (Tuesday), the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications held the 9th Japan-Germany ICT Policy Dialogue in Berlin with the Federal Republic of Germany’s Federal Ministry for Digital and State Modernisation and other organisations. In addition to sharing initiatives and confirming cooperation between the two governments, private companies, research institutions, and industry associations discussed matters in a public-private session. Following the meeting, discussions will continue toward further deepening and concretising cooperation between Japan and Germany.

Overview
The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications held a policy dialogue with the Federal Republic of Germany’s Federal Ministry for Digital and State Modernisation and other organisations to deepen mutual policy understanding in the information and communications field between Japan and Germany and promote collaboration and cooperation. The meeting covered a wide range of ICT-related topics, including sharing initiatives undertaken by the governments of both countries and confirming further cooperation.

The intergovernmental meeting was attended by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, the Federal Republic of Germany’s Federal Ministry for Digital and State Modernisation, and other relevant ministries and agencies. They discussed AI, 5G and Beyond 5G/6G, online protection of minors, wireless power transmission (WPT), and data policy. On AI, the discussions covered the status of initiatives such as Government AI and the Hiroshima AI Process. On 5G and Beyond 5G/6G, they addressed progress in international joint research, Open RAN, and AI RAN. In the public-private session, private companies, research institutions, and industry associations exchanged views on business and cooperation initiatives and business and research and development challenges, under the themes of 5G and Beyond 5G/6G, WPT, and public-private collaboration between Japan and Germany.
