Overview
The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the International Energy Agency (IEA) held the LNG Producer-Consumer Conference 2026. LNG producers and consumers from around the world participated, and government-private sector panel discussions and announcements on cooperation were held under the theme “Advancing LNG for the Future: Resilience and Reliability.”
Based on the discussion paper released in advance, the participants discussed public and private sector policies and corporate strategies in LNG-producing and consuming countries, finance and investment to address energy security needs, and technological innovation in the LNG supply chain.

At the ministerial-level session, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Akazawa emphasized the importance of diversifying supply sources, diversifying and expanding markets, and preparing for emergencies, bearing in mind lessons learned from the situation in the Middle East.
The Japanese government and the Government of Montenegro announced the signing of a memorandum of cooperation in the energy sector, citing energy infrastructure development, including LNG receiving terminals and gas-fired power plants. During their meeting, the two countries confirmed the importance of deepening economic cooperation, including in the energy sector.
