Field Demonstration for AI-Based Barrier Data Extraction
Overview
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism is seeking organizations to cooperate in a field demonstration that will implement technology using AI and other tools to automatically extract barrier information such as width, longitudinal gradient, and level differences, and verify more efficient data development. Applications will be accepted from September 3 to October 2, 2026; participating organizations will be selected in mid-October, field activities will take place from late October through December, and results will be compiled from January through February 2027.

Overview
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism is examining methods for using AI to automatically extract barrier information in pedestrian spaces, including width, longitudinal gradient, and level differences, to promote the development of pedestrian space network data.
Because developing the data requires substantial time and effort, the ministry is advancing the enhancement of AI-based data development support tools to enable efficient data development and updating through the participation of diverse organizations.
Impact
The ministry aims to create an inclusive society in which everyone can move independently and safely by promoting the conversion of barrier information, such as level differences in pedestrian spaces, into open data and its use, including route searches and guidance that avoid level differences and the provision of information on barrier-free facilities.
Details
Eligible applicants are organizations able to cooperate in the field demonstration. See Attachments 1 and 2 for the application guidelines and proposal form.
Going forward, participating organizations are scheduled to be selected in mid-October 2026, followed by field activities from late October through December 2026.
