Construction Statistics for August 2026
Overview
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism published the August 2026 Construction Statistics on e-Stat. The statistics are compiled to measure construction activity on a completed-work basis, estimating monthly work completed by distributing construction costs obtained from two underlying statistics over time. In addition to annual retroactive revisions, revisions may be made to reflect quality improvements in the underlying statistics and related data, so published figures may change in the future.

Overview
The Construction Statistics are compiled to measure domestic construction activity on a completed-work basis. Results for August 2026 were published on e-Stat, the government's comprehensive portal for statistics.
Construction costs used as the basis for estimation are obtained from the Building Construction Starts Statistics Survey and the Construction Orders Received Dynamics Statistics Survey. The statistics treat these as amounts recorded at the start of construction and distribute them over time to estimate monthly work completed as projects progress.
Details
Construction costs obtained from the two surveys are treated as amounts recorded at the start of construction, distributed over time according to project progress, and used to estimate monthly construction work completed.
Every June, when the April figures are published, the statistics use the latest adjustment rate calculated from finalized actual construction investment figures to retroactively revise the three most recent years, starting with the preceding March figures.
The statistics may also be revised retroactively to reflect quality improvements in the underlying statistics and other data used for calculations. Because of such revisions, the figures published this time may change in the future. Users are advised to consult “Notes on Use and Information on Revisions.”
