On July 23, 2026, JETRO adopted the JETRO Human Rights Policy to promote respect for human rights in its operations as a public institution. Against the backdrop of growing international and domestic expectations for respect for human rights, including the UN Guiding Principles, the Japanese government’s action plan and guidelines, and the G7 Trade Ministers’ Statement, JETRO will practice respect for human rights through its own activities and encourage responsible conduct among related parties, including business partners and supported companies. In preparation for the policy, JETRO established a review committee and engaged in dialogue with stakeholders.

Overview
On July 23, 2026, JETRO adopted the JETRO Human Rights Policy. Its purpose is to fulfill its social responsibility as a public institution and promote operations that respect human rights.
Expectations for respect for human rights in economic activities have grown internationally and domestically through initiatives including the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights of 2011, the Japanese government’s National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights for 2020–2025, and the Guidelines on Respecting Human Rights in Responsible Supply Chains and Other Business Activities of 2022.
The 2023 G7 Trade Ministers’ Statement also affirmed the importance of respecting human rights in corporate activities and global supply chains.

JETRO has conducted research and studies on business and human rights and disseminated information on the subject. In formulating the new policy, it identified practicing respect for human rights through its own activities and promoting responsible conduct among related parties as essential issues.
During the formulation process, JETRO established the Human Rights Policy Review Committee and examined its basic organizational stance and the direction of its initiatives while engaging in dialogue with stakeholders. JETRO announced the establishment of the committee on December 19, 2025.
Under the concept “Connecting with the world. Together, one step ahead,” JETRO aims to realize “a prosperous and peaceful world achieved through the power of connection.”
Based on its vision, mission, and values, JETRO states its aim to “build the foundations for business in uncharted fields together with people, companies, and countries,” and uses its domestic and international networks to promote trade and investment and conduct research and studies.
