This report is the completion report of a needs assessment survey for honeycomb cardboard assembled and mobile medical rooms in Zambia, conducted by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
In Zambia, insufficient medical infrastructure and geographical constraints make medical access, particularly in rural areas, an important challenge. This survey conducted detailed analysis of local needs for lightweight, easily assembled and mobile honeycomb cardboard medical rooms.
The honeycomb cardboard structure has characteristics of being lightweight yet strong, cost-efficient, and easy to assemble and disassemble locally. It also has low environmental impact when disposed of, making it expected as a sustainable medical infrastructure solution.
Through interviews with Zambia's Ministry of Health, local governments, medical personnel, and resident representatives, the survey verified local medical needs, climate conditions, transportation circumstances, and maintenance systems.
The survey results confirmed strong needs for mobile medical rooms, with particularly high evaluation of their potential use in seasonal medical campaigns and emergency response. Future consideration includes optimization of technical specifications and implementation of demonstration tests.
