The summer electricity charge-adjusted index is calculated by excluding from the overall average the effect of the summer electricity surcharge applied each year from July through September. A negative sign for the exchange rate indicates yen appreciation, and “r” in the table denotes a revised value. The weight calculation year for the chained index is 2023.
For the overall averages of the domestic, export, and import indexes, the report contains annual, fiscal-year, and quarterly values from 2023 to 2025, as well as monthly trends from August 2025 through September 2026. Monthly tables include the index, month-over-month change, year-over-year change, and change from three months earlier; export and import data distinguish between yen terms and contract currency terms.
