Overview
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism estimated demand for major construction materials in FY2026. Of the five materials, demand for cement, ready-mixed concrete, and ordinary steel is forecast to exceed the previous fiscal year; wood is forecast to remain unchanged year over year, and asphalt to decline by 2.6%. The outlook is estimated using projected building and civil engineering investment from the construction investment outlook, excluding building repair investment, together with material-specific demand coefficients.

Details
Domestic demand is estimated using projected investment amounts for building and civil engineering from the construction investment outlook, together with material-specific demand coefficients (demand per 1 million yen of construction cost). Investment in building repairs and renovations is excluded from the projected investment amounts.
The estimate forecasts year-over-year increases in demand for cement, ready-mixed concrete, and ordinary steel; flat demand for wood; and a decline in asphalt demand.
