Emergency Drainage Operations by Team Inbanuma
Overview
After Typhoon No. 25 breached levees around Lake Inbanuma and caused widespread, prolonged flooding, Chiba Prefecture, the Japan Water Agency, and the Kanto Regional Development Bureau formed Team Inbanuma. They are lowering the lake level, making emergency levee repairs, and rapidly draining flooded areas, with completion targeted in about one week in view of the approach of Typhoon No. 26.

Overview
Typhoon No. 25 breached levees around Lake Inbanuma and elsewhere, causing widespread, prolonged flooding. In response, the relevant organizations are carrying out emergency drainage and related operations around Lake Inbanuma.
To carry out the operations steadily and swiftly, Chiba Prefecture, the Japan Water Agency, and the Kanto Regional Development Bureau formed Team Inbanuma and are strengthening coordination through meetings and other means.
Impact
Emergency levee repairs are intended to prevent flooding from recurring at breach sites if water levels rise again due to future rainfall.
The number of drainage pump vehicles will be increased to drain floodwater caused by levee breaches as quickly as possible.
Details
The drainage pumps will be operated at maximum capacity to lower the water level from about 3.0 m as of 7:00 a.m. on September 25 to the normal level of 2.3 m within one or two days, and then lower it further as much as possible.
Emergency repairs to breached levees will cover 4 sites in 3 districts around Lake Inbanuma and elsewhere. Technical support will be provided for on-site construction methods to promote early restoration.
In addition to the drainage pump vehicles currently operating in Chiba Prefecture, the fleet will be increased to 30 vehicles for emergency drainage.
