Climate Adaptation Cooperation between MLIT and Singapore Agencies
Overview
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism will hold a signing ceremony for a memorandum of understanding with Singapore’s Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment (MSE) to promote the participation of Japanese companies in climate change measures in the land, infrastructure, and transport sectors in Singapore. In addition to updating the memorandum signed in 2023, MLIT will co-host a public-private high-level dialogue with the Singapore Enterprise Agency (ESG) on measures addressing sea-level rise, including storm surges, and share future directions for cooperation.

To further promote the participation of Japanese companies in climate change measures in the land, infrastructure, and transport sectors in Singapore, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism is advancing various initiatives, including positioning climate adaptation as one of the key areas of cooperation in a joint document following the Japan-Singapore summit meeting in March this year.
The Singapore government has designated this year as the first year of climate adaptation and is strengthening measures addressing sea-level rise, including storm surges, resulting from climate change. It is promoting coastal protection across the country, including the Long Island concept, which involves reclaiming approximately 20 km along the east coast.
