Revised Regional Transport Law: Closing Transport Gaps, a Growth Investment
Overview
The Act Partially Amending the Act on Revitalization and Rehabilitation of Local Public Transportation, promulgated on June 10, 2026, will enter into force on October 16, 2026. In preparation for its implementation, Japan will amend related laws and develop guidelines to fully utilize local transportation resources, eliminate “transportation gaps” through sharing and collaboration, and achieve sustainable local public transportation. The measures cover the Enforcement Regulation of the Act on Revitalization and Rehabilitation of Local Public Transportation, the Basic Policy on Promoting the Revitalization and Rehabilitation of Local Public Transportation, the Enforcement Regulation of the Road Transportation Act, and guidelines for promoting the use of mobility data.
