Monthly Statistics on Long-Term Care Benefits (May 2026)

The Monthly Statistics on Long-Term Care Benefits and Other Payments have been compiled since the May 2018 review portion to understand benefit payments and other expenditures related to long-term care services and obtain basic materials that can be used for revisions to long-term care remuneration and other purposes. The monthly report covered here is the “Monthly Statistics on Long-Term Care Benefits and Other Payments (May 2026 Review).”

The statistical tables organize not only the number of beneficiaries and expenditure amounts but also expenditure amounts per person, units, service occasions, days, cases, numbers of billing providers, numbers of certified persons, and insurance benefit amounts, by support or care-needing condition category and service type.

The direct purpose of these statistics is to help obtain basic materials needed for revisions to long-term care remuneration, smooth operation of the long-term care insurance system, and policy planning.

The aggregation covers all long-term care benefit statements, statements for comprehensive projects for preventive long-term care and daily life support, and benefit management statements reviewed by the Prefectural National Health Insurance Federations and stored in the Comprehensive Long-Term Care Insurance Database. The aggregation covers the initial review portion, excluding error corrections and re-reviews, and includes records whose billing was delayed. Reimbursement payments made directly by municipalities, such as expenses for purchasing welfare equipment and home renovations, are excluded.

Tables 1 through 7 present the numbers of beneficiaries, expenditure amounts, and expenditure amounts per person for preventive long-term care services and long-term care services by condition category, service type, prefecture, and other classifications. Tables 8 through 17 present units, service occasions, days, and cases by service content, required time, provider category, rental item type, and categories such as specified medical expenses, special medical care expenses, and special medical expenses.

Tables 18 through 21 cover in-home service benefits, the number of certified persons, the number of billing providers, cases, actual days, units, expenditure amounts, and insurance benefit amounts for specified residential facility service users. Tables 22 through 27 present the number of beneficiaries, expenditure amounts, expenditure amounts per person, units, cases, and numbers of billing providers for comprehensive project services.

The tabulation symbols are “-” when there is no figure, “・” when a statistical item cannot exist, and “…” when the figure is unknown or tabulation is inappropriate. When rounding estimated values, ratios, and other figures produces a result that does not reach 1 in the lowest digit, it is represented as “0,0.0,” and decreases in number or rate are represented by “△.” In addition, subtotals may not equal the total because of rounding and other procedures.
