Review Begins to Revise the Station Plaza Planning Guidelines

The Station Plaza Planning Guidelines systematically present basic approaches to functions, area calculations, layout planning, and other matters, positioning station plazas as transportation hubs connecting railways and cities.

This time, in light of changes in social conditions surrounding station plazas and the state of urban policy, discussions will begin on updating the basic principles for their development and reviewing planning methods and design standards in line with the new principles. Alignment with compact-plus-network policies, walkable community development, and station-city design is also required.

The review committee meeting will be closed to the public, but members of the press alone may observe and photograph proceedings through item (1).

Those wishing to observe should bring a business card to the venue. After the meeting ends, the review committee materials and meeting summary will be posted on the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism website.

The committee will be established as the Station Plaza Planning Guidelines Review Committee. The agenda scheduled for its first meeting includes the committee rules, changes and issues concerning station plazas, and the direction and overall structure of the guideline revision.

The venue is Joint Government Building No. 2, Low-Rise Annex, First-Floor Common Meeting Room 1, Kasumigaseki, Chiyoda City, Tokyo, and the committee members are listed in the attached document.
