Parliamentary Vice-Minister Komori Visits Malaysia

During the visit, Komori held broad exchanges of views with Malaysian government officials on energy and GX, industry, and investment. With Johari Abdul Ghani, Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Komori discussed bilateral and public-private industrial cooperation in areas including automobiles, as well as the energy and GX sectors and investment from Japan in data centers.

Komori also promoted the Japan Food Export Support Program for 10,000 Businesses, launched in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries on April 10, 2026, and advanced efforts to understand the conditions and challenges surrounding exports of Japanese agricultural, forestry, fishery, and food products to Malaysia.

In the critical minerals sector, Japan and Malaysia agreed to further strengthen cooperation between their governments and confirmed that they would accelerate efforts toward the early signing of a memorandum of cooperation on JCM. Regarding AZEC, they agreed to pursue functional enhancements under Power Asia in preparation for the ministerial meeting in October 2026.

With Deputy Minister Said Ibrahim of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, the topics were critical minerals and JCM, while with Nor Azmi, the Administrative Vice-Minister of the Ministry of Economy, the topics were AZEC and CCS. Regarding CCS, Komori welcomed progress in discussions based on the memorandum of cooperation exchanged by the two governments last year.

On food-related matters, Komori exchanged views with the JETRO Kuala Lumpur office, local representatives and resident staff of Japanese companies, and others on efforts to expand exports, demand for Japanese food products, sales trends, and challenges. Komori also inspected local retailers handling Japanese food products and areas in large commercial facilities where Japanese restaurants and other establishments are concentrated, and promoted Japanese food products in meetings with government officials by presenting Japanese tea.
