Sustainable Local Public Transport: Municipal Certification Launch

Local public transport is an important foundation that provides mobility essential to daily life, including shopping, medical care, and education.

While bus routes and other services are being suspended or discontinued one after another amid a shortage of operators, mobility needs are expected to grow further as people surrender their driver’s licenses and schools and hospitals are consolidated or closed.

Based on Initiative Policy 2026, efforts will be advanced to build sustainable local public transport systems that prevent transportation vacancies from occurring, with a view beyond the Intensive Measures Period for Eliminating Transportation Vacancies.

Among certified municipalities, particularly outstanding initiatives are scheduled to be widely publicized, and the municipalities behind them are scheduled to receive awards as exemplary municipalities.

Municipalities that submit applications may be asked to cooperate with surveys or interviews as necessary.

Details of the application, application forms, and information about the briefing session will be announced on the dedicated website that has been launched. The second application period is scheduled for around January to February 2027.

To register for the briefing session for local governments, applicants should use the designated contact email and provide the municipality name, applicant’s name, and contact information. Registration is limited to one account per municipality, and applications will not be accepted after the deadline.

Certification will be conducted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism’s Headquarters for Eliminating Transportation Vacancies.
