Monthly Coastal Shipping Overview: 0.3% Year-on-Year Increase

This monthly overview of coastal shipping presents total transport volume, tonne-kilometers, container and chassis handling, commodity-level results, fuel consumption, voyage distance, and transport efficiency. Total transport volume was 24,399 thousand tonnes, and tonne-kilometers were 12,348 million tonne-kilometers.

Container handling totaled 1,915 thousand tonnes, while chassis handling totaled 759 thousand tonnes.

For the 10 major commodities on a tonne basis, year-on-year changes were: gravel, sand, and stone, down 2.1%; limestone, down 2.4%; cement, down 12.0%; steel, down 0.1%; coal, up 20.6%; crude oil, down 35.6%; heavy oil, down 16.1%; gasoline, up 4.3%; other petroleum and petroleum products, down 7.5%; and chemicals, down 7.4%.

On a tonne-kilometer basis, gravel, sand, and stone increased 2.9%; limestone decreased 1.4%; cement decreased 8.9%; steel increased 0.2%; coal decreased 39.5%; crude oil decreased 21.1%; heavy oil decreased 15.1%; gasoline increased 3.5%; other petroleum and petroleum products decreased 12.3%; and chemicals decreased 6.4%.

Total fuel consumption was 184,217 thousand liters, up 2.5% from the same month of the previous year, while total voyage distance was 10,543 thousand kilometers, up 2.1%.

Transport efficiency was 40.57% for all coastal vessels, 41.78% for cargo ships, and 38.02% for oil tankers.
