MLIT Decides Disaster Prevention Projects and Revises Earthquake Plan

In July 2020, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism compiled 10 policy packages to protect people's lives and livelihoods under its Disaster Prevention and Disaster Reduction Project, launched to address increasingly severe and frequent natural disasters and other hazards caused by climate change.

The ministry has worked to enhance and strengthen its measures by advancing initiatives such as basin-based flood control, setting annual themes based on disaster response and other considerations, and compiling projects.

The ministry will revise the Plan for Measures Against an Earthquake Directly Beneath the Tokyo Metropolitan Area, establishing emergency activity plans for when an earthquake occurs and measures to be promoted strategically in preparation for earthquakes.

The 14th meeting of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism's Disaster Prevention and Disaster Reduction Headquarters will be held online and in person from 4:30 p.m. on July 28 at the executive conference room on the fourth floor of Central Government Building No. 3. The agenda will cover the fiscal 2026 projects and related matters.
