Priority Plan on Loneliness and Isolation Revised

On July 10, 2026, Prime Minister Takaichi held the fourth meeting of the Headquarters for the Promotion of Measures to Address Loneliness and Isolation at the Prime Minister's Office and discussed a draft revision of the priority plan.

Based on the discussion, the Priority Plan on Loneliness and Isolation Measures was adopted, and a policy was presented to advance efforts centered on three areas: young people, local communities, and awareness.

Relevant ministers are expected to work closely together and ensure the reliable implementation of the priority plan's measures so that people facing difficulties do not fall through gaps in support.

It is considered important to ensure that the public knows about places where anyone can drop in and feel at home, as well as consultation services available when people encounter difficulties.

Under the prevention of loneliness and isolation among young people, the government will assess the realities of loneliness and isolation among children and young people and establish mechanisms to reliably connect children and young people at high risk of suicide with support in their local communities. In addition, it will investigate examples of private companies working to address loneliness and isolation, expand the range of private-sector actors involved in these measures, and roll them out nationwide.

Under the promotion of measures in local communities, the government aims to establish local public-private platforms for measures to address loneliness and isolation in all prefectures, serving as a foundation for cooperation between private organizations, NPOs, and public authorities. It will also use grants for promoting measures to address loneliness and isolation to provide detailed, hands-on support.

Under the goal of raising awareness of these measures, the government will strengthen the dissemination of information about places where people can feel at home and consultation services. Relevant ministers, including Minister Kawakida, will actively publicize measures related to loneliness and isolation.
