Senegal President Faye Visits Japan to Strengthen Strategic Partnership

Senegal President Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye made an official visit to Japan from August 18-26, coinciding with the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) and Senegal Day at the Osaka-Kansai Expo. On August 20, he met with Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, seeking enhanced cooperation in strategic areas including human resource development, health, water resources, fisheries, and peace, emphasizing that human resource development, particularly vocational training, is a crucial pillar for development. On August 21, he signed memoranda of understanding (MOUs) with Toyoda Tsusho, Daikin, Yamaha, Toda Corporation, and NEC for strengthening human resource development cooperation, including technical support through vocational training. At the Expo Senegal Day on August 25, he mentioned key sectors such as energy and local processing of agricultural products, emphasizing the need for infrastructure and digital development to become a regional logistics hub. He reaffirmed commitments to support the private sector through providing stable and attractive business environments that form the core of the national development goal "Vision Senegal 2050," and called for participation in the Senegal Investment Forum to be held in Dakar on October 7-8.
