The Atlanta office of the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives posted on social media on September 4 that in coordination with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), they conducted an immigration enforcement raid at a Hyundai Motor Group battery plant located in Bryan County, Georgia, detaining approximately 450 undocumented foreign nationals. Hyundai announced in 2022 a total investment of $7.5 billion to build an EV assembly plant and battery plant in Bryan County, with the EV assembly plant beginning operations in March 2025. The current raid targeted only the battery plant being built in collaboration with LG Energy Solution, causing temporary suspension of battery plant construction while EV assembly plant operations continued.
