August Passenger BEV Registration Increases 53.1% to 9,760 Units

According to data from Thailand's Department of Land Transport, new battery electric vehicle (BEV) registrations in August reached 11,461 units, up 30.2% year-on-year. By category, passenger cars increased significantly by 53.1% to 9,760 units, while motorcycles decreased 24.5% to 1,579 units. For January-August 2025 cumulative, BEV passenger cars surged 55.0% to 76,944 units, while motorcycles decreased 18.3% to 14,816 units. By manufacturer, Chinese companies dominated with overwhelming market share: BYD (DENZA) topped with 24.3%, SAIC (MG) second with 22.9%, and CHANGAN (DEEPAL/AVATR) third with 13.1%, with Chinese manufacturers capturing a combined 90.1% share. In the January-August cumulative, BYD led with 35.4%, SAIC with 14.6%, and AION with 10.5%, with Chinese manufacturers maintaining a combined 89.8% share. Meanwhile, in hybrid electric vehicles (HEV), Japanese manufacturers showed overwhelming strength: Toyota with 46.7%, Honda with 36.0%, and Mitsubishi with 10.4%, maintaining a combined 97.2% share. Thailand's EV market shows clear segmentation between Japan and China by technology type.
