This report summarizes the results of research on systematic organization of corporate statistics conducted by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry in FY 2024.
For improving the accuracy of government statistics and promoting their utilization in policy formulation, systematic organization of various statistics related to companies has become an important issue. Particularly, revision of statistical systems corresponding to the advancement of digitalization and changes in economic structure is required.
This survey analyzed challenges in current corporate statistics, compared with international statistical systems, and examined new statistical methods. Improvements in statistical items and survey methods were examined to appropriately understand the realities of corporate business diversification, servicization, and digitalization.
Survey results revealed challenges including the emergence of new business models that cannot be fully captured by existing industry classifications, difficulties in understanding the degree of corporate digitalization progress, and the burden on small and medium enterprises in responding to statistical surveys.
Improvement measures proposed included revision of survey items, introduction of efficient survey methods utilizing digital technology, survey integration and simplification for reducing corporate burden, and provision of statistical information with high real-time characteristics.
The survey results are expected to be utilized as important reference materials for future improvement of corporate statistical systems and enhancement of statistical accuracy.
