This report summarizes the results of a survey on smooth regulatory measure response for freight shippers and others conducted by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry in FY 2024.
In the logistics industry, improving logistics efficiency and working conditions through cooperation from freight shippers has become an important issue in preparation for the application of overtime work hour limits under work style reform-related laws (April 2024).
This survey examined in detail what initiatives freight shippers should undertake in cooperation with logistics companies, and what support is needed to smoothly respond to regulatory measures.
Specifically, the roles and responsibilities of freight shippers were analyzed from perspectives including reducing loading waiting times, standardization and efficiency of logistics, utilization of digital technology, and construction of sustainable logistics systems. Additionally, the necessity of support measures for small and medium freight shippers and industry-wide initiatives was also examined.
Survey results confirmed that consciousness reform and specific improvement actions by freight shippers are essential for ensuring sustainability of the entire logistics industry. Additionally, the importance of logistics improvement was emphasized not only from a regulatory compliance perspective but also from a competitiveness enhancement perspective.
The survey results are expected to be utilized as important reference materials for future logistics policies and development of guidelines for freight shippers.
