Current Situation Analysis Japan's technological innovation environment in 2024 faces severe conditions due to intensified global competition. In the digital technology field, competition with the United States and China has intensified, and Japanese companies' R&D investment remains at 3.8% of sales. Japan maintains world-leading levels in manufacturing technology and materials technology. The practical application rate of AI technology lags behind Europe and the United States, and the DX promotion rate is low at 42.5%.
Priority Technology Fields For AI and machine learning technologies, the goal is set to expand the domestic AI market to 15 trillion yen by 2030. The regulatory sandbox system is utilized to promote practical application of autonomous driving technology, medical AI, and manufacturing AI. For 5G and 6G communication technologies, 2.5 trillion yen will be invested in domestic infrastructure development.
Expected Effects Industry-academia-government collaboration projects will be deployed on a scale of 500 projects annually, increasing research budgets by 30%. For digital human resource development, the goal is to train 100,000 advanced IT professionals annually. The aim is to maintain 3rd place in the global technology competitiveness ranking by FY2030 and achieve R&D investment ratio to GDP of 4.5%.
