This report presents the results of the Consumer Sentiment Survey (trial) for July 2025 conducted by the Economic and Social Research Institute of the Cabinet Office.
The survey was conducted from June 21 to July 20, 2025, with responses from 99 participants (70 men and 29 women). By age group, the largest segment was those in their 20s and younger with 36 respondents, followed by those in their 50s (22), 60s and above (21), 40s (11), and 30s (9).
Regarding future living conditions, approximately 60% (55.5%) of respondents expect deterioration in their living conditions after six months, with 34.3% expecting conditions to "worsen slightly" and 21.2% expecting them to "worsen." Meanwhile, 35.4% expect "no change," 7.1% expect "slight improvement," and only 2.0% expect "improvement."
Concerning price inflation expectations, over 90% (92.9%) of respondents anticipate price increases one year from now, with 59.6% expecting "price increases" and 33.3% expecting "slight price increases." Only 5.1% expect "no change," while those expecting price decreases are extremely few at 1.0% each for "slight decrease" and "decrease."
The article reveals that most consumers are concerned about deteriorating living conditions and continued price inflation, highlighting the severe state of consumer sentiment.
