Meeting Implementation Overview On Tuesday, August 19, Vice Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Koga received a courtesy call from Ms. Fatou Haidara, Deputy Director-General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and former Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism of the Republic of Mali. The meeting involved exchanges of views on future cooperation and strengthened coordination between both parties to ensure smooth progress of demonstration projects in Global South countries and Ukraine reconstruction support projects, maximizing their outcomes.
Technical Cooperation Through STePP Program Vice Minister Koga stated that through UNIDO's STePP (Sustainable Technology Promotion Platform) program, which introduces Japan's excellent environmental and energy technologies, the ministry will promote investment and technology transfer to developing countries that create synergies with METI policies. The STePP program introduces Japan's excellent technologies that contribute to sustainable industrial development in developing countries, targeting five fields: (1) energy, (2) environment, (3) agribusiness, (4) health and hygiene, and (5) disaster prevention.
Cooperative Projects Based on Joint Declaration Exchanges of views were conducted on the progress of cooperative projects for Global South and Ukraine reconstruction support based on the joint declaration signed by both parties in July last year. Cooperation and strengthened coordination measures for smoothly advancing these projects in the future were also discussed. In the important international cooperation fields of industrial development support for Global South countries and Ukraine reconstruction support, effective coordination utilizing Japan's technological capabilities and UNIDO's international network is expected.
Promotion of International Industrial Cooperation This meeting holds important significance from the perspective of promoting international industrial cooperation utilizing Japan's advanced technologies. Through coordination with UNIDO, technology transfer and investment promotion that benefit both sustainable industrial development in developing countries and overseas expansion of Japanese companies are expected. Particularly, technology cooperation in environmental and energy fields represents important initiatives contributing to achieving global decarbonization goals.
