Overview
The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry established the GX Strategic Region System to create new industrial clusters centered on industrial resources such as industrial complexes and decarbonized power sources distributed across regions. Under category (4), “Decarbonized Power Regional Contribution” (GX Regional Co-Creation Subsidy), the system supports GX-related equipment investment by businesses that use decarbonized power and contribute to the regions where they are located.
Impact
The ministry says support for selected projects will help expand GX-related investment across Japan.
Details
There are 2 eligible project types: manufacturing-equipment investment, which supports investment in manufacturing equipment for GX-related products and other items; and data-center equipment investment, which supports investment in data centers. The subsidy aims to support GX-related equipment investment by businesses that use 100% decarbonized power and contribute to the regions where they are located.
The first call ran from July 17 to September 1, 2026. A review committee comprising external experts assessed project competitiveness, plans for using decarbonized power, and other factors, and selected 7 manufacturing-equipment investment projects and 4 data-center equipment investment projects.
The second call is scheduled to begin in November. Details will be announced on the GX Regional Co-Creation Subsidy Secretariat website.
