Loans and Deposits (September)
Overview
The Bank of Japan’s Financial System and Bank Examination Department issued “Principal Figures of Financial Institutions (Preliminary Figures for September 2026),” a preliminary release covering “Loans and Discounts” and “Deposits and CDs” for September 2026. Each statistic presents the year-on-year change in average outstanding balances and the average outstanding balance; the heading for the change rate states the unit as 100 million yen. The definitions explain the coverage of counts, bank categories, and excluded items for loans and discounts and for deposits and CDs, and state that the scope of “other surveyed domestically licensed banks” differs between the two statistics. The release also describes the aggregation route for Shinkin banks, figures for foreign banks, and notes on statistical discontinuities.
