Overview
The 48th WorldSkills Competition was held in Shanghai, People’s Republic of China, from September 22 to 27. A total of 1,372 people from 65 countries and regions, including Japan, took part, and competitions were held in 64 skill areas.
Impact
The Japanese team won gold medals in two skill areas—ICT Network Cabling and Renewable Energy—along with five silver medals, three bronze medals, and 26 Medallions for Excellence. Japan ranked sixth by gold medal count.
Ahead of the 49th competition in 2028, the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare says it will continue efforts to broaden the base of young skilled workers through skills competitions and other initiatives, and to build momentum for treating skills as more valuable in society.
