Overview of State Minister Miyazaki’s Visit to Egypt

During the visit, discussions were held at the MFO South Camp on the activities of the Japanese contingent, and State Minister Miyazaki met with the MFO Force Commander. A signing ceremony and meeting were also held with the Egyptian Ministry of Defense, followed by briefings and exchanges of views at the Egyptian Military Academy and the Arab Organization for Industrialization.

Through the meeting with the MFO Force Commander, the importance of the MFO’s activities in the region was confirmed. At the meeting following the memorandum signing, the participants confirmed that defense cooperation and exchanges would be further promoted in various fields based on the memorandum.

1. During the visit to the Multinational Force and Observers (MFO), State Minister Miyazaki visited the MFO South Camp, encouraged four Japan-deployed Ground Self-Defense Force personnel, and exchanged views on the activities of the Japanese contingent. State Minister Miyazaki also met with MFO Force Commander Galloway.

At the signing ceremony for the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Defense of Japan and the Ministry of Defense of the Arab Republic of Egypt concerning defense cooperation and exchanges, State Minister Miyazaki met with Deputy Minister of Defense for International Relations Baybars and held the memorandum signing ceremony. At the subsequent meeting, the participants confirmed that cooperation and exchanges based on the memorandum would be further promoted in various fields.

3. At the Egyptian Military Academy, State Minister Miyazaki received an explanation of the academy’s activities and exchanged views on education. 4. At the Arab Organization for Industrialization, State Minister Miyazaki received an overview of the organization’s activities, including the production of defense equipment, and exchanged views.
