Publication of FY2025 Rail Transport Safety Information
Overview
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism compiled and published safety information on rail transport for FY2025 pursuant to Article 19-3 of the Railway Business Act. There were 530 train operation accidents, 495 injured or deceased persons, including 227 deaths, all representing decreases from the previous fiscal year. Meanwhile, transport disruptions totaled 7,445 cases, an increase from the previous fiscal year.

Overview
Each fiscal year, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism organizes reports on railway operation accidents and other incidents, the implementation status of administrative guidance concerning transport safety, and the development status of railway facilities related to safety, based on Article 19-3 of the Railway Business Act. The results are published as Rail Transport Safety Information, and the FY2025 information has now been compiled.

There were 530 train operation accidents in FY2025, a decrease of 66 cases from the previous fiscal year. The number of injured or deceased persons was 495, a decrease of 1 person from the previous fiscal year, including 227 deaths, a decrease of 18 people. Train operation accidents have shown a long-term downward trend.
Transport disruptions refer to events such as train cancellations and delays of 30 minutes or more for passenger trains. There were 7,445 transport disruptions in FY2025, an increase of 40 cases from the previous fiscal year. Transport disruptions have shown a long-term upward trend.
