Prime Minister Takaichi Attends Regional Future Strategy Meetings

On August 28, 2026, Prime Minister Takaichi attended the sixth meeting of relevant senior vice-ministers and others on the Regional Future Strategy, as well as the report to the Prime Minister on the strategy, at the Office of the Prime Minister. The meeting reported on the three types of plans concerning the Regional Future Strategy and the Regional Future Strategy Budget Package.

The reported plans include the Regional Industrial Cluster Plan, the Local Industry Growth Plan, and the Strategic Industrial Cluster Plan concerning next-generation shipbuilding in the Kyushu region.

The plans indicated that the reported plans would be implemented over multiple fiscal years and would provide momentum for other local governments to formulate their own plans.

The policy is to use the contents of the formulated plans when considering the Realization Framework, make the approach to support more effective, and contribute to the formation of industrial clusters.

The reported plans met requirements concerning such matters as the scale of public and private investment in the region, the degree of industrial concentration, and the contents of new initiatives that generate increases in added value, and had undergone confirmation by the Secretariat of the Regional Future Strategy Headquarters.

The Regional Future Strategy Budget Package provides a list of national support measures for infrastructure development necessary for industrial clusters, broad investment support for private-sector operators, and human resources development.

The Realization Framework will include four points: multiyear budgetary measures; local government fiscal measures that take local government burdens into consideration; priority and systematic measures for infrastructure development and the Regional Future Special Budget, a separate allocation from existing budgets; and the Regional Future Allocation, which gives priority to investment support and human resources development measures by each ministry and agency.

Plans of the three types will continue to be accepted and published as they arise.
