WOW TO JAPAN Project Selects Trenchless Pipe Rehabilitation Technology

Overview
The WOW TO JAPAN Project is an initiative to confirm the effectiveness and other attributes of Japanese water and sewerage technologies suited to the needs of overseas countries through demonstration tests abroad and to promote their adoption. This fiscal year, CIPP pipe rehabilitation technology will be demonstrated in urban areas of Malaysia, where water and sewerage pipelines are aging and large-scale open-cut construction is difficult.

Through the demonstration, the project will confirm the effectiveness and other attributes of the technology, widely inform water and sewerage operators and relevant ministries and agencies in Malaysia about it, and promote its adoption.
Details
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism selected the proposed technology after review by a third-party committee. The implementer is the “Joint Venture for the Demonstration Project on CIPP Rehabilitation of Water and Sewerage Pipelines in Malaysia,” composed of Nissuicon Co., Ltd. and Yokoshima Limited.
A lining material is inserted into and hardened inside an existing pipe to form a new pipe inside existing pressure pipes and large-diameter pipes. The project will verify the applicability and usefulness of this technology for rehabilitating pipelines without large-scale open-cut construction and thereby reducing project costs.
