MLIT Minister Certifies Tsukiji 2-chome Redevelopment

The Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism certified the Tsukiji 2-chome District Type 1 Urban Redevelopment Project as an excellent private-sector urban regeneration project plan in the Tokyo Central and Waterfront Area of a Special Urban Renewal Emergency Preparation Area.

The project centers on integrated development of a pedestrian network linking the station and shopping streets, a community hub, and disaster-prevention and environmental functions, and is expected to contribute to urban regeneration.

Residents, workers, and visitors will find it easier to travel from the station to shopping streets and other destinations, while green spaces and plazas will provide places to stay and engage in community activities.

Support for visitors during disasters, electricity security, utility-pole removal, and energy conservation will contribute to regional safety and peace of mind while reducing environmental burdens.

The project will improve the subway entrances at Tsukiji Station and the station-front plaza, while jointly advancing utility-pole removal, pedestrian-environment improvements, and roadside greening along ward roads. This will create a broad pedestrian network connecting to nearby subway stations and shopping streets.

The project will develop a community plaza where residents, workers, and visitors can gather, high-quality office and commercial functions, and green spaces, creating a community hub where people can experience vibrancy and comfort.

The project will secure temporary waiting areas for use during disasters, disaster-prevention stockpile warehouses, and emergency power-generation facilities. Following project certification, the developer will be eligible for financial support from the Organization for Promoting Urban Development and special tax measures.
