On July 28, 2026, the Consumer Affairs Agency carried out the first certifications under the food bank certification system, which began on April 1, 2026.

Those receiving the first certifications were F001 Food Bank Fukuoka, a specified nonprofit corporation; F002 Food Bank Kansai, a certified specified nonprofit corporation; F003 Food Bank Yamanashi, a certified nonprofit organization; and F004 Second Harvest Japan, a specified nonprofit corporation.
The Consumer Affairs Agency serves as the certification office and certifies compliance by food banks with traceability, hygiene management, and other requirements.
The certifications are carried out based on the “Food Donation Guidelines: Toward Enhancing the Reliability of Food Donations.”
