NEC Relocates DGDF Global Business Headquarters from Tokyo to Zurich

【Headquarters Relocation to Switzerland】 NEC relocated the headquarters functions of its Digital Government Digital Finance (DGDF) business from Tokyo to Zurich, Switzerland in August 2025. The newly established NEC DGDF Headquarters AG serves as headquarters for the DGDF business unit, overseeing global DGDF business operations including digital ID/DX. It handles formulation and promotion of key strategies including M&A, management of principal subsidiaries and consolidated businesses, and executive personnel and compensation management. 【Business Expansion Background】 NEC reorganized its Global Safety division (now Digital ID/DX) in 2016, subsequently acquiring UK's Northgate Public Services (now Software Solutions UK) in January 2018, Denmark's KMD in February 2019, and Switzerland's Avaloq in December 2020. The business expanded from public safety areas including police, national ID, and airports to digital government and digital finance. 【Business Scale and Growth Strategy】 Avaloq, responsible for digital finance business, has been driving growth, with the three acquired companies (SWS-UK, KMD, Avaloq) accounting for approximately 80% of revenue. Including Digital ID/DX and other operations, revenue exceeds 300 billion yen. This relocation aims to close the distance with the three European companies and European markets, accelerating growth strategy through faster decision-making. 【Relocation Destination Selection and Support】 After considering multiple countries where major subsidiaries are located, Switzerland was selected as it is located in the center of continental Europe and serves as the base for digital finance business driving growth. The relocation process was smoothly implemented with support from Swiss Business Hub Japan, the Swiss Embassy in Japan, and the Canton of Zurich.
