The Kinki Finance Bureau conducted detailed analysis of economic structural characteristics and structural changes in its jurisdiction covering 2 prefectures and 4 prefectures (Osaka, Kyoto, Hyogo, Nara, Shiga, Wakayama). This report was prepared as materials for the National Finance Bureau Directors' Meeting, organizing the Kinki region's economic characteristics from a national perspective.
The greatest characteristic of the Kinki region's economic structure is the extremely high proportion of the service industry. The service sector accounts for approximately 75% of regional gross domestic product, exceeding the national average, with particularly notable concentrations in commerce, finance, and information and communications industries. The concentration of commercial and financial functions centered in Osaka enables the region to play a core role in western Japan's economy.
