On July 14, 2025, Masaki Ogushi, Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, received a policy recommendation document titled "Japan and the EU - Global Partnership in a Changing World" from Nobuhiro Endo, Japanese Co-Chair of the Japan-EU Business Round Table. Established in 1999, the Japan-EU Business Round Table serves as a forum where senior executives representing industries from Japan and Europe convene to make policy recommendations for strengthening economic relations between the two regions.
The 2024 recommendations were prepared with a focus on this year's BRT themes of "economic security" and "industrial competitiveness." The recommendations cover a wide range of common challenges for Japan-EU industries, including trade relations, investment and regulatory cooperation, life sciences, digital transformation, and environmental issues. These areas represent particularly important domains in the economic relationship between the two regions, where enhanced mutual cooperation is urgently needed.
In the changing international landscape, Japan and the EU need to deepen industrial cooperation further as important partners sharing common values. The recommendations provide concrete directions for cooperation from the perspective of industries in both regions and are expected to serve as important reference materials for future policy formulation.
