This report summarizes the results of an explosives blast impact reduction technical standards study project conducted by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry in FY 2024.
Explosives play important roles in various industrial fields including mining, construction, and manufacturing, but their handling always involves risks of serious accidents due to explosions. Based on recent technological advances and changes in social conditions, revision of technical standards for safer and more efficient management and use of explosives is required.
This survey conducted detailed analysis of the latest technological trends for reducing explosive blast impacts, domestic and international regulatory standards, and safety management methods. It was examined from perspectives including blast protection technology, safety distance setting, detection and monitoring systems, and emergency response procedures.
Survey results confirmed that new technologies such as high-precision blast impact prediction simulations utilizing digital technology, continuous monitoring systems using IoT sensors, and abnormality detection using AI technology have entered the practical implementation stage.
Additionally, it was pointed out that in revising technical standards, perspectives such as establishing objective evaluation methods based on scientific evidence, ensuring consistency with international standards, and reducing practical burdens on business operators are important.
The survey results are expected to be utilized as important reference materials for future revision of technical standards for explosives and improvement of safety management systems.
