Survey Overview
JETRO conducted a comprehensive survey on the installation status of charging infrastructure essential for Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) proliferation, based on data from the Electric Vehicle Association of Thailand (EVAT).
Charging Infrastructure Expansion Status
Baseline Comparison: Analysis used September 2022 as the baseline, when BEV new registrations first exceeded 2,000 units per month, comparing with the situation as of June 2025.
Charging Station Growth:
- From September 2022 baseline to June 2025
- 4.4-fold increase to a total of 3,821 locations
Charger Installation Growth:
- Same period showing 4.6-fold increase
- Total of 11,832 charging units installed
Progress Against Thai Government Targets
Government Target: The Thai government has set a goal to install 12,000 fast chargers by 2030
Current Progress Status:
- 6,760 units installed as of June 2025
- 56.3% completion rate achieved
Remaining Timeline for Target: With approximately 4.5 years remaining until 2030, an additional 5,240 fast chargers need to be installed.
Relationship Between BEV Adoption and Charging Infrastructure
Adoption Turning Point: September 2022 marked a breakthrough when BEV new registrations exceeded 2,000 units per month for the first time, triggering rapid charging infrastructure expansion. This period marked Thailand's EV market entry into a full-scale growth phase.
Infrastructure Development Acceleration: The more than 4-fold increase in charging locations and 4.6-fold increase in charging units over approximately three years demonstrates rapid advancement of EV charging infrastructure development in Thailand.
Steady Progress Toward Government Targets: The current 56.3% progress rate indicates a steady pace toward achieving the 2030 target.
