This report summarizes the survey results on electrical equipment technical standards and related regulations conducted by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) in FY 2024.
Japan's technical standards for electrical equipment are established under the Electricity Business Act to ensure the safety and reliability of electrical facilities. This survey comprehensively examined domestic and international trends in technical standards, the development status of related regulations, and responses to new technologies.
In FY 2024, particular attention was given to reviewing existing technical standards and considering the need for new regulations from the perspectives of expanding renewable energy adoption, introducing digital technologies, and technological innovation toward achieving a decarbonized society.
Key survey items included verification of current technical standards implementation, ensuring consistency with international standards, consideration of standards corresponding to new energy technologies, and balancing safety assurance with technological innovation.
The survey results are expected to serve as important reference materials for future revisions and new establishment of electrical equipment technical standards.
